What to Expect From Medical Tattooing, Micro Needling, or Scar Camouflage

Prospective clients often call or write us to ask if we can help reduce the appearance of a scar.  The answer is a definite “yes”, we can help. But there’s a lot more to it than that.  It’s important to understand what can and can’t be done, and to have the proper expectations from the beginning. Here’s what you should know about scar camouflaging and scar relaxation.

The most common scars we’re asked to improve are facial scars, whether from injury or surgery, and scars on the breast typically resulting from breast augmentation, breast reduction, or mastectomy.  Areola tattooing is done carefully and artistically to give the areola a realistic three dimensional appearance (see our 3D areola restoration before & after photos).  Another common request is to improve the appearance of an incomplete or improper body tattoo removal. We can improve the appearance of scars just about anywhere on the body.

We offer scar relaxation and a form of medical tattooing called scar camouflage. If you look very closely, our skin is not all one uniform color – it’s mix of colors. We use a technique called pixelation, which uses a blend of colors to more closely match the skin’s natural color patterns.

Scar relaxation is accomplished using a technique called micro needling, also known as Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT). Micro needling creates microscopic punctures in the scar tissue. This stimulates collagen production and helps blood capillaries reach the surface.  The result is improved skin tone (color), smoothed texture and a reduction of the three-dimensional appearance of the scar.

Scar camouflage is similar to scar relaxation except that we add pigments matched to your particular skin to make the scar color blend with the surrounding skin. We also use specialized techniques to further mask the scar’s appearance.  For example, normal skin viewed very closely is not all one uniform color, so we use pointillism to create the appearance of a more natural mix of tones naturally occurring in the skin.

What to expect:

Although micro needling and scar camouflage can reduce the appearance of your scar, it’s important to understand that scars are long-lasting and no scar will ever be completely invisible.  Every scar is different: body location, size, shape, color, appearance of depth, and so on. Some scars require only a single treatment, others take multiple treatments. Results are cumulative and may take four to six weeks to fully develop.

If you’ve had your scar for a while, you may have noticed that it doesn’t tan the same way the rest of your skin does.  That’s a natural characteristic of scar tissue, and is not something we can change. However, the scar should be less visible as a result of our procedures.

Unlike harsher colored body tattoos, the skin tone micropigments we use do fade over a number of years and will need to be touched up over time to maintain their appearance.

Medical tattooing can successfully improve the appearance of modest-sized scars that cut through eyebrows or the hair on your scalp. It may not be the best option for scars that have left larger areas without hair, such as those that may be left by major surgery, because of the need to periodically go back and re-pigment large areas as hair color changes over time.

If you’d like us to help with your scar, typically we’d start with a one-hour appointment or a 30-minute consultation. All scar camouflage and scar relaxation work is charged by the hour. Pricing and additional information can be found on our Micro Needling & Medical Tattooing page.  If you want to email us a photo, we can take a look and let you know what we think, but we can’t be as definitive as if we see it in person. Or you can request an appointment.

I have almost given up hope. Everything cost so much. It woud be great to finally be without. How much does this procedure cost?

    • Steve Pennypacker on June 18, 2015 at 7:16 pm

      Hi Christy,

Every scar is unique. They can be large or small, discolored or not, flush or raised, and so on. Because each scar is different, it wouldn’t be possible to give one price that covers them all. This is why we charge by the hour for scar work. The best thing to do would be to email a photo of the scar to [email protected] and ask us for an estimate.

Thanks for asking and we hope to hear from you soon.

      Steve

  3. Kim M. on January 7, 2016 at 9:26 am

Hi l, where are you located? I have an upper lip discoloration. Are you able to fill in for that area?

    • Steve Pennypacker on January 8, 2016 at 10:16 am

      Hi Kim,

Here’s a pointer to our address & contact info: https://prettyology.com/contact-us/.

We may be able to fill in your lip discoloration. We can give a better idea once we see it. Please email a photo of your lips to [email protected]. We’ll take a look and get back to you.

      Thank you for asking!

  4. Dipika R Patel on May 26, 2016 at 5:18 pm

would any of your services work for underarm stretch marks and dark under arms?

    • Steve Pennypacker on May 28, 2016 at 4:00 pm

      Hi Dipika,

Straight microneedling (no pigments) can reduce the appearance of stretch marks anywhere on the body. It will not get rid of them completely, but certainly can make them look better.

Thanks for asking and do let us know if we can answer anything else for you.

      Best,
      The Prettyology Team

  5. Monika on June 28, 2016 at 1:20 pm

Would you be able to cover up a coffee stain birthmark by matching skin tone?

    • Steve Pennypacker on June 28, 2016 at 2:07 pm

      Hi Monika,

We’d love to help. Unfortunately, we are unable to camouflage birthmarks due to medical concerns. This is something we’ve discussed with our insurance company. Julie’s suggestion is to try laser removal.

Sorry we aren’t able to be more helpful here.

      Best,
      Prettyology

  6. Nelly on July 18, 2016 at 5:12 pm

Hello, just wondering if same tone skin color can be used over a tummy tuck scar? Thank you!

    • Steve Pennypacker on August 30, 2016 at 10:50 am

      Hi Nelly,

Tummy tuck scars are complicated. We should be able to improve the appearance, though we would not be able to disguise it completely. If you’d like to proceed, the best thing to do would be to email a photo of the area to [email protected] and ask us to review and recommend options.

  7. Chris on July 31, 2016 at 5:58 pm

I got a hickey a couple months ago that left a small but noticable flat white scar on my neck. Would this treatment be effective?

    • Steve Pennypacker on August 30, 2016 at 10:47 am

      Hi Chris,

Yes, we should be able to improve the appearance of the hickey scar. The best thing to do would be to email a photo of the area to us at [email protected] and ask us to recommend what appointment to book. Make sure the photo shows the scar clearly.

  8. Dawn Sophia on August 26, 2016 at 8:52 pm

Hello, I am so desperate. I am a brown skinned African American female and I have melasma upper lip discoloration that I cannot seem to cover well with makeup. Can this procedure help? Thank you.

    • Steve Pennypacker on August 30, 2016 at 10:44 am

      Hi Dawn,

There is probably a solution for you, but micropigmentation isn’t the right answer for melanoma. The reason has to do with the fact that skin is translucent and changes color with sun exposure, whereas our pigments are opaque and don’t change. So we could match your skin color on the day you come in, but at different times of year, you’ll see similar issues to what you have now. We simply can’t make it look natural enough.

We recommend consulting with a dermatologist, who should be able to address the root cause with medication.

      We hope this helps.

      – The Prettyology Team

  9. Caitlin on August 30, 2016 at 11:00 am

Hi I was wondering if these services would help with reducing the appearance of multiple self-injury scars.

    • Steve Pennypacker on August 30, 2016 at 1:06 pm

Yes, we can help with these. The best thing to do would be to email a photo of the area to us at [email protected] and ask us to recommend what appointment to book. Please make sure the photo shows the scars clearly so we can get an idea as to the amount of work.

  10. Katrina on September 15, 2016 at 7:10 pm

Can you tattoo over a burn scar on the inner arm that is about 2″ in diameter?

    • Steve Pennypacker on September 20, 2016 at 1:01 pm

      Hi Katrina,

Yes, we should be able to improve the appearance of your burn. The best thing to do would be to email a photo of the area to us at [email protected] and ask us to recommend what appointment to book. Make sure the photo shows the scar clearly.

  11. Aley on September 16, 2016 at 8:15 pm

Would scar camouflage help to blend arm lift scars to a better matched skin tone?

    • Steve Pennypacker on September 20, 2016 at 1:20 pm

      Hi Aley,

We should be able to help. That said, the most important thing for your arm lift scars is for you to understand what expectations to have. If the skin was cut all the way through, we won’t be able to have as much of an impact. Also larger areas take more work (ie higher cost). You could certainly email a photo so we can have a look. Julie’s feeling is that we would look at it and most likely suggest that you come in for a 30-minute session to get a feel for how much work might be required and what the results could look like. From there you can decide whether it’s worth investing more fully.

  12. Ell on October 23, 2016 at 11:07 pm

Hi, recently my son and i were playing around he scratched my face. I know have a scar from the incident. I am african american my skin is brown and the scar is tan. The scar is very small si but right on my forehead. Is there anything you could do to help this? Permanent make up?

    • Rachel Sommers on November 29, 2016 at 4:15 pm

      Hi Ell,

Yes, we could certainly help reduce the appearance of your scar. With any scar camouflage procedure that we do, the success of the results depends on the scar itself as well as your expectations.

With that being said, adding pigment to a lighter scar is much easier to do than camouflaging a scar that is hyperpigmented, especially if the scar is flat, and is something that we do often.

When dealing with scar camouflage, we would highly recommend that you send in a photo of your scar to our email [email protected], so that an artist can take a look at it and come up with a game plan for you. Or you could book a consolation with us by calling (617) 262-1607.

      Have a pretty day!

  13. Linda Marz on October 25, 2016 at 11:02 am

So I have some self injury scars from a needle on my right arm. Not big, but all light colored and not tan with rest of skin, even lighter in the winter it seems. I have Keloid scarring, so several of the lines tend to be a bit raised, could you help with that too as well as the color.? And how much by hour do you charge……I haven’t looked into this because I’m thinking it might be rather expensive and years later what fades, just the color? If you made it so the little scars didn’t look as raised, would that also go away?

    OK thanks let me know

    • Rachel Sommers on November 29, 2016 at 4:08 pm

      Hi Linda,

Yes, we could certainly help reduce the appearance of your scars. With any scar camouflage procedure that we do, the success of the results depends on the scar itself as well as your expectations. Although micro needling and scar camouflage can reduce the appearance of the scar, understand that scars are long-lasting, and that no scar will ever be completely invisible. Due to the fact that every scar is different, some scars will require a single treatment, whereas others may require multiple treatments and multiple methods. Also, please keep in mind that scar camouflage and micro needling is charged by the hour.

To start, we would typically have you come in for a 30 minute consultation, where we can evaluate the scar and come up with a game plan. Based off of what you had mentioned in your question (that it is relatively flat and white), many times we would micro-needle the scar to start, in order to get it as flush to the surrounding skin as possible. Most people would see results from micro-needling in 2-3 sessions. Also be aware that we would require you to wait 4-6 weeks in between each session in order for your skin to heal from the treatments.

After we flattened the scar, we would then proceed with micropigmentation, where we would match the scar to the surrounding skin. White scars are always much easier to cover than scars that are hypo pigmented.

In regards to our pricing, we charge $300.00 per hour for both micro-needling as well as the scar camouflage itself (micropigmenting the scar).

If you would like to proceed with us, or make a consultation, please call us at your earliest convenience at 617-262-1607. Or if you feel comfortable, send in a clear photo of the scar to our email [email protected] .

  14. Melissa on November 10, 2016 at 5:59 pm

Hi I have vitiligo can you guys even all my body.

    • Rachel Sommers on November 29, 2016 at 4:03 pm

      Hi Melissa,

Yes, we can help even out your skin tone, and have had many clients with Vitiligo in the past. With that being said, we always want our clients to manage their expectations because although we can help reduce the appearance of the discoloration, it will never look perfect, and may require multiple sessions.

We would suggest for you to come in for a 30 minute consultation, so that we can get a better feel for how much work you would need. Because we charge based by the hour, we would want you to come in for a consult to assess how many spots there are, how large those areas are, and how many sessions you would need.

Please feel free to give us a call at 617-262-1607 or send in a photo of the areas that you would like to have treated to [email protected] .

    Hello!

I am wondering if this procedure would work for a thin white line scar around the areola from breast lift. The scar is relatively flat, it’s just that I want the white line to be less visible and more like the darker natural pigment of the areola. Thanks!

Do you do microblading for the eyebrows ?

    • Rachel Sommers on November 29, 2016 at 4:00 pm

      Hi Heidi,

Thank you for reaching out to us!

Yes, we do microblading for the eyebrows, using individual hair brush strokes with a hand tool. In addition to our microblading, we also offer regular micropigmentation, which can include shading or a combination of shading and individual hair brush strokes. If you are unsure of which method would be best for you, we do also offer 30 minute consultations at $80.00. This would give you the opportunity to speak one on one with one of our highly trained artists. During this consultation, the artist can discuss your options, stencil out the work that we would do for you, and they will be able to answer any questions that you have.

If you would like to book an appointment with us, or have any additional questions about the procedure itself, please call us at your earliest convenience at 617-262-1607.

      Have a pretty day!

  17. Beth on November 30, 2016 at 7:08 am

Hello there, I have a scar around my one areola and 1) I want to make the scars go away (they are flat and pink yet, but they’ll eventlually become white and then I want to camouflage them. 2) after the surgery my one areola stretched and now it’s too big, I don’t like the size of it at all and my other areola is just small and beautiful, can I tattoo skin color on my big areola to make it smaller? I already had a reduction surgery but it just left me with an areola that stretched out again and bad scars. I used make up to cover it up and im just so happy with that size it gives me when its covered up. Can I tattoo skin color over my areola to make it smaller?

    • Steve Pennypacker on April 10, 2017 at 4:38 pm

      Hi Beth,

First off, we apologize for the long delay getting back to you.

#1) Yes, we can improve the appearance of the scars.

#2) We can make the smaller areola larger to more closely match the stretched one, including addressing the scars. Unfortunately we can’t make the large areola appear smaller. The skin has been stretched thin (think of making a pizza – as the dough is tossed and stretched, the crust thins out. The same is true here). At the same time, the pigments used to lighten the areola are very opaque. The combination of opacity and thin skin unfortunately don’t lead to good results.

  18. Trina on December 4, 2016 at 4:57 pm

Do you do medical tattooing for stretchmarks?

    • Steve Pennypacker on April 10, 2017 at 4:08 pm

      Hi Trina,

Sorry for the delay getting back to you. Yes, we are able to address stretch marks. Please see our Micro Needling & Medical Tattooing page.

Since stretch marks are different for everyone, we charge by the hour. If you’d like an estimate, please email one or more well-lit photos of the area to [email protected].

I have stretch marks from having my baby can you help with that?

  20. Mary on December 14, 2016 at 12:02 am

Will camoflouge tattooing help in reducing the appreance of hyperpigmentation? I have some hyperpigmentation (genetic) on my stomach area and I was wondering if tattooing will help even out the pigmention to almost match the color of the surrounding skin.

    • Steve Pennypacker on April 10, 2017 at 4:41 pm

      Hi Mary,

Whether we can address the hyperpigmentation depends on what’s causing it. Melasma? Birth mark? etc? The only way to know is to take a look. Please send a well-lit and clear photo of the entire area to [email protected]. With it, let us know what’s causing the hyperpigmentation. One of our artists will take a look and respond with what can be expected.

      Thank you.

  21. Arianna on February 13, 2017 at 8:10 am

I have a scar from a tattoo I got removed. It’s not raised, just pinkish color. Is it possible to make it whiter?

    • Steve Pennypacker on April 10, 2017 at 4:50 pm

      Hi Arianna,

There’s a good chance we can improve the appearance. The details depend on the individual scar itself. Please send a well-lit, well-focused photo to [email protected]. One of our artists will take a look and we’ll let you know what you can expect.

  22. Andre on February 21, 2017 at 1:05 am

    Hello.
I have a sunspot on my forehead and was interested in the possibility of using this procedure to minimize its appearance. My question is, will this procedure be something that would benefit my circumstance, also what would a procedure such as in my case cost?

    • Steve Pennypacker on April 10, 2017 at 4:44 pm

      Hi Andre,

Unfortunately sunspots are not something we’re able to address. We would recommend consulting with a dermatologist for possible laser treatment. Or as a less-involved solution, there are creams available both over-the-counter and by prescription.

  23. Heather on March 14, 2017 at 4:15 pm

    Hi, My name is Heather.
I have four very big purple colored scars on my arms. Three of them are puffy and they are half the length of an apple iPhone. Could this help them? They are very obvious and cause me a great deal of stress. I no longer swim, wear short sleeves, go outside much ect. I would like to get back to living a normal life. I also don’t have a lot of money so is it possible to come up with a payment plan? Where are you guys located? Thanks.

    • Steve Pennypacker on April 10, 2017 at 4:56 pm

      Hi Heather,

We may be able to help. It depends on what’s caused the scar, and on the scar itself – for example whether it’s a keloid scar. If you can send a well-lit, well-focused, detailed photo of the area together with a description of what’s cause the scar, one of our artists will take a look and we’ll be able to give you a better idea as to what to expect. Depending on what we find, it may be necessary to have a doctor approve the work.

  24. vicky on March 24, 2017 at 3:35 am

hi i have a tummy tuck scar with keloids can you tell me how much it eould cost and if it eould work, scar is aboit 17 inches

    • Steve Pennypacker on April 10, 2017 at 5:02 pm

      Hi Vicky,

We can improve the appearance of the scar. That said, especially in the case of scars where the skin was cut all the way through (as in a tummy tuck), there’s a limit to the improvement we can make. We aren’t able to make it invisible or to eliminate the raised keloidal aspect of the scar.

For an estimate of both pricing and expected results, please send a well-lit, well-focused, detailed photo of the area to [email protected].

  25. Donna on April 9, 2017 at 5:42 pm

Hi there I am wondering can you cover stretch marks on stomach and thighs and where are you based and prices?

    • Steve Pennypacker on April 10, 2017 at 4:04 pm

      Hi Donna,

We’re in Boston. Yes, we are able to address stretch marks. Please see our Micro Needling & Medical Tattooing page.

Since stretch marks are different for everyone, we charge by the hour. If you’d like an estimate, please email one or more well-lit photos of the area to [email protected].

  26. Alex Lewis on April 17, 2017 at 2:07 pm

    Hello,
I’m an African American male. Between light skinned and brown skinned. I have several scars on my arms. They aren’t risen just a lot darker than my skin shade. I also have an uneven skin tone. I’d like to significantly reduce the appearance of my scars and even out my skin tone. Do you frequently work with African Americans? It is hard to match our skin tones and certainly would want it to match. Do you have any feasible solutions?

    • Steve Pennypacker on April 17, 2017 at 4:33 pm

      Hi Alex,

We’re quite familiar with African American skin tones including scars and what we can and can’t achieve. We recently helped a gentleman with vitiligo and the results were phenomenal. That said, it’s much harder to lighten dark skin than it is to darken light skin. The latter can come out looking chalky. It’s impossible to know for sure without looking at it. If you can email one or more clear, detailed, well-lit photos of the area to [email protected], one of our scar experts will review it and we’ll get back to you with a better idea of what to expect.

We hope we can help you. If not, we’d suggest looking for a lightening cream or consulting with a dermatologist.

Sorry for the delayed reply. There’s a good chance we can improve the appearance. The details depend on the individual scar itself. Please send a well-lit, well-focused photo to [email protected]. One of our artists will take a look and we’ll let you know what you can expect.

    • Steve Pennypacker on January 22, 2018 at 3:39 pm

      Hello Halima,

Unfortunately our insurance no longer permits us to work on hyperpigmented areas due to medical concerns. The basic premise is that these areas can be caused by medical issues that should be addressed, not covered over.

We apologize that we aren’t able to help. We would recommend seeing a medical esthetician or dermatologist as a next step.

  30. Nidya Martinez on November 16, 2017 at 5:25 pm

My problem is hyperpigmentation. Do you think tattoo camouflage would help by lightening the area? I’ve tried everything.

      Hi Nidya,

Unfortunately our insurance no longer permits us to work on hyperpigmented areas due to medical concerns. The basic premise is that these areas can be caused by medical issues that should be addressed, not covered over.

    • Steve Pennypacker on April 4, 2018 at 10:48 am

      Hi Alaa,

There’s a strong chance we can help. We can’t tell for sure until we see what it looks like. I would suggest booking a consultation where we can see it up close and have a better idea of what can be done. If you’d like, you can send a well-lit closeup photo of the scar to [email protected] and we can evaluate from there, but we’d still start you off with a consultation.

There’s a strong chance we can help. We can’t tell for sure until we see what it looks like. I would suggest booking a consultation where we can see it up close and have a better idea of what can be done. If you’d like, you can send a well-lit closeup photo of the scar to [email protected] and we can evaluate from there, but we’d still start you off with a consultation to see it more closely in person.

  33. Rukmini Gowda on April 4, 2018 at 9:18 am

I had tummy tuck a year back due to which I had new belly button scar which was still brown . My tatoo artist tried to camouflage the belly button scar to my skin color . It’s been 10 days now . It’s looking awful . It’s looking orange & ugly . Can you do something abt it. Thank you

    • Steve Pennypacker on April 4, 2018 at 10:42 am

      Hi Rukmini,

We can improve the appearance of the scar. That said, especially in the case of scars where the skin was cut all the way through (as in a tummy tuck), there’s a limit to the improvement we can make. We aren’t able to make it invisible or to eliminate the raised keloidal aspect of the scar.

For an estimate of both pricing and expected results, please send a well-lit, well-focused, detailed photo of the area to [email protected]. It sounds like you had some scar camouflaging done just 10 days ago. That’s enough for a lot of the healing to be done but I’d give it at least another 3-5 days before taking the photo.

      • Sally on May 8, 2019 at 6:45 am

Hello I have the same color problem, my stretch marks on my chest looks orange it’s been 15 days till now , do you think the color can be 100% fixed ?

        • Steve Pennypacker on September 13, 2019 at 5:48 pm

Hi Sally, thanks for getting in touch. Hopefully the color has improved by now. To answer your question, we can probably help but can’t tell for sure from just your note. We would need to take a look, and the first step would be to email a photo of the area to [email protected]. We’ll take a look and let you know if it makes sense to have you come in for a consultation where we can look at it up close.

  34. Fatima on April 30, 2018 at 7:40 am

    Hi,

Do you do tattoing for port wine stains? I have a very large one on both my hands and how long does the tattoo last if done on pws and is there any side affects. Thank you.

    • Steve Pennypacker on May 15, 2018 at 12:22 pm

      Hi Fatima,

      Hi Monika,

We’d love to help. Is the stain a birth mark? Unfortunately, we are unable to camouflage birth marks due to medical concerns. This is something we’ve discussed with our insurance company. Our suggestion would be to try laser removal.

Sorry we aren’t able to be more helpful here.

      Best,
      Prettyology

      • NANA on July 20, 2018 at 9:23 pm

        Why can’t you camouflage birthmark?
How about marks had at birth, a cut one had when one was a baby

        • Steve Pennypacker on January 22, 2019 at 11:08 am

          Hi Nana,

We’re unable to work on birthmarks because there’s a possibility it could disguise a situation that a doctor might need to see, either in the present or the future. A cut is entirely different. That’s a scar, which is something we often can help with.

  35. StevenS on June 3, 2018 at 5:47 pm

Hi! Is it possible to do needling or maybe a fraxel laser a month or so after the pigment is injected in the skin? What are the effects?

    • Steve Pennypacker on June 14, 2018 at 4:14 pm

      Hi Steven,

We do not recommend laser after having micropigmentation applied. The laser can damage or change the pigment.

  36. Kevin smith on June 19, 2018 at 7:29 pm

I need to get a price of covering a scar of a breast lift. And if possible I’d like to see some pictures from the types of operations that you guys have had so I can get a idea on what works or how close it covers them up. Needs to be perfect and blend good

    • Steve Pennypacker on January 22, 2019 at 11:15 am

      Hi,

We should start by clarifying that we do cosmetic tattooing, we’re not a medical office and don’t do surgery. We can do a lot to reduce the appearance of the scars. However, we can not make them disappear 100%. For example, pigmented (cosmetically tattooed) skin does not tan identically to the surrounding skin. And some scars are easier to mask then others. If you’re looking to make the scars truly disappear entirely, we’d recommend consulting a plastic surgeon. Or if you’d like more information, feel free to call us at 617.262.1607.

  37. Connor on October 3, 2018 at 12:47 am

    Hey there,

Is there any chance this tattooing pigment can cover up flat brown and black facial moles??

    Thanks a lot

    • Steve Pennypacker on September 13, 2019 at 4:49 pm

Hi Connor, unfortunately our insurance doesn’t allow us to cover over things like this for medical liability reasons (there’s a chance we could be concealing something important from a doctor). We’d recommend seeing a dermatologist. Thank you for contacting us and sorry we can’t help.

  38. My on December 11, 2018 at 5:05 pm

Hi I have a marble shape like scar in legs and the color is deep
Brown . Can you make it be less noticeable?

    • Steve Pennypacker on September 13, 2019 at 5:08 pm

      Hi,
Thanks for contacting us. Yes, there’s a very good chance that we can improve its appearance and make it less noticeable. Please email a photo of the area to [email protected]. One of our senior artists will review and if it looks promising, the next step would be an in-person consultation where the artist would look at it up close and discuss what we can do for you.

  39. Ashlyn on December 19, 2018 at 8:59 pm

I have a stork bite or birth mark on my upper lip and underneath my left eye and it’s really noticeable is there anyway to cover that up with this type of tattooing or is this specifically for scars.

    • Steve Pennypacker on September 13, 2019 at 5:11 pm

      Hi Ashlyn,
This is a tough one. Generally we can’t cover over birthmarks for medical liability reasons. That said, do feel free to email a clear, well-lit, close-up photo of the area to [email protected]. One of our senior artists will review it. If it looks promising, the next step would be an in-person consultation where the artist would look at it up close and discuss what we can do for you.

  40. beth watts on January 18, 2019 at 9:05 pm

i have a scar on my face (corner of my lip) , i would need coloring on my face and shaping of the corner of my lip, is that possible?

    • Steve Pennypacker on January 22, 2019 at 11:05 am

      Hi,

It should be possible. It’s important to clarify what we mean by that. We don’t do any actual skin shaping. That would presumably be the job of a plastic surgeon. We might be able to help with the coloration and might be able to disguise the shaping issue a bit. There are some coloration issues we can’t address, such as birthmarks. The only way to know for sure would be to see it. You could start by sending a clear, well lit photo of the area to [email protected]. If the photo looks like something we might be able to work on, the next step would be to schedule a consultation with one of our senior artists to get a closer look and discuss the possibilities.

hello i am african american i have light spots on my face would this fix my problem

    • Steve Pennypacker on September 13, 2019 at 5:12 pm

      Hi,
Thanks for contacting us. Yes, there’s a very good chance that we can improve the appearance of the spots and make them less noticeable. This is actually fairly common for us. With that said, we can’t be sure until we see it. Please email a photo of the area to [email protected]. One of our senior artists will review and if it looks promising, the next step would be an in-person consultation where the artist would look at it up close and discuss what we can do for you.

Hi Salima, yes, we can probably help. Please email a photo of the area(s) to [email protected]. If the photo looks promising, we’d schedule a consultation for you to come in and have one of our senior artists take a look in person so we could know for sure and discuss what your options are.

  46. Scorpio on December 19, 2019 at 12:06 pm

If done today. How many weeks it would take before I can see difference in my treated scae

    • Steve Pennypacker on January 15, 2020 at 9:47 am

      Hi,

We’d like to be able to answer that directly but the truth is that how long it takes to see results depends on type and severity of the scar as well as other factors. The best thing to do would be to send a photo of the scar to [email protected]. We’ll have one of our artists review it and we can start to give some feedback based on that. The better the photo, the more we’ll be able to learn from it so be sure it’s well-lit, close up, shows the entire scar, and in focus.

If we feel based on the photo that we can help you, the next step would be to come in for a consultation where we’d see the scar in person and learn more about it from you.

I am looking to get rid of a facial scar and would like to talk to someone about the process.

    • Steve Pennypacker on January 15, 2020 at 9:42 am

This is one of our specialties. We would need to know more about your scar to determine whether and how we might be able to help you. Please call us at 617.262.1607.

  48. Brian on January 22, 2020 at 7:27 pm

I have a scar on my lip from pressing a cotton ball soaked with apple cidar vinegar on a coldsore. Is there any way to restore the pigmentation on my lip? I have a noticeable scar on my upper lip tissue.

    • Steve Pennypacker on January 23, 2020 at 10:49 am

That sounds like it was painful, Brian! Yes, that’s the sort of thing we can almost certainly help with. If you’re interested, the next step would be to schedule a consultation for you to come in and have one of our senior artists take a look at it in person. At that point they’ll also be able to review your options with you. You can reach us at 617.262.1607. I’ll also forward your info and question to our client services team who may reach out to you.

Hey , i want to ask which procedures exactly i have to follow to reduce may if possible eliminate the scars for :
    1) tummy tuck
2)Signs of surgery for a skin tightening along the length of the hand under the armpit and Thigh from inside. knowing that i have a wheat color for my skin color.
And on average, how long time i need to reduce these scars appearance and last inquiry please, are you having any clinic in Italy ??
    Thanks so much for you

    • Steve Pennypacker on February 18, 2020 at 12:37 pm

      Hi Sonia,
Unfortunately we do not have a location in Italy. Not that we wouldn’t like to!
I expect that for the issues you’ve described, we would probably use microneedling with pigments. However, we really can’t say for sure without seeing the area ourselves, either with a photograph as a first step or ideally live in person. If you might be in the Boston area, please contact our Client Services team at either [email protected] or +1 (617) 262-1607. They will be able to guide you from here.

We wish you all the best.

Hello, congrants on your amazing work. I have some acne scars and Hypopigmented scars and I think the combination of microneedling and scar camouflage would better a lot the appearance of my face scars.. i know you are located in Boston . Would you know anybody with the same experience in Miami?! Thank you

    • Steve Pennypacker on April 9, 2020 at 5:35 pm

Hi Raquel, thank you. We put some feelers out among trusted friends and the name that came back is Lanette Marie Scherr. We can’t speak to her skills from personal experience but she comes highly recommended by someone we trust. We hope that helps. Stay well.
